Empowering Dominicans with Visual Impairment through Braille and other Marketable Skills

The project was implemented in 2006/2007 by the Dominica Association of Persons with Disabilities (DADP) in collaboration with Abilities Unlimited of Dominica.

The main targets of the Project, children and adults who had serious visual impairment and those who support themselves through craft making, expected to benefit from Braille competence while the community and families would eventually gain from the improved abilities and income earning capacity of these individuals.  The Project also expected to improve the working environment and better equip the Workshop for the Blind operated by Abilities Unlimited to be more productive.  The initiative’s objectives were:

  • Capacity Building in the training of Braille
  • Training in Braille to initial cohort
  • Technical Assistance for the enhancement of output of Abilities Unlimited NGO
